Thanks to a new update, creating the ultimate Microsoft Excel spreadsheet could soon be more of a team effort than ever.
The spreadsheet software now offers users the chance to collaborate more smoothly during a Microsoft Teams conversation with the new Excel Live feature.
This allows anyone on a video conference call to collaborate on an Excel worksheet, including instant edits and additions, all updated and visible in real time during a meeting.
Excel Live in Microsoft Teams
Microsoft says the new addition will enable users to collaborate more easily than ever before, allowing them to seamlessly collaborate during a Microsoft Teams call.
Users can simply select the file they want to share to start editing right in a meeting. Owners can then grant editing permissions to meeting participants, or simply allow all meeting participants to edit the document from the meeting window.
In its entry on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap (opens in new tab)Excel Live is still described as “under development”, but it has a planned General Availability date of March 2023, meaning users won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on it.
Upon release, Excel Live will be available to users on PC and Mac, as well as mobile users with Android or iOS devices.
Microsoft has been hard at work over the past few months delivering a number of updates to Excel and Teams to ensure its platforms are useful and intuitive for customers around the world.
Microsoft Excel recently rolled out a new “@mentions” extension that allows users to tag their colleagues both within an organization and beyond. These tags can be requests for edits, adding more information, or just clarifying a point.
The company also recently added the ability to add hyperlinks to comments added to spreadsheets, instead of having to copy and paste from plain text as was previously the case.
